Recently, on holiday in Dubai, I tried a dune buggy for the first time. I went on a guided tour to Big Red Dune and saw what all the fuss was about. The view changed drastically once the city fell behind our backs, and suddenly acres of land were covered with gold sand. It was surreal and exhilarating how the scenery had changed from urban to wild. It is a very experienced adventurer who gave us a comprehensive safety briefing, making sure that everybody was comfortable with their buggy. Once on the sand, the whole experience was rather different from anything I had ever done. The power of the buggy along with the shifting dunes made the ride an exhilarating one. We went up steep dunes and then down tricky descents; we even did some sandboarding.
